Tripura: On February 23, Tripura High Court took decisive action by transferring a civil judge accused of sexually harassing a rape survivor within his chambers to a different position pending further investigation. According to an official notification dated February 23, the judicial officer in question, Sri Biswatosh Dhar, who served as a Civil Judge (Junior Division) and Judicial Magistrate First Class in Kamalpur, Dhalai District, has been relocated to the High Court and placed on compulsory waiting for a future assignment.
The notification further specifies that the responsibilities previously held by Judge Dhar in Kamalpur will be temporarily assumed by Smt. Madhumita Biswas, Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate-cum-Civil Judge (Junior Division), Kamalpur, Dhalai District, until a permanent decision is made regarding the position.
“Sri Biswatosh Dhar, Civil Judge (Jr. Div.)- cum-Judicial Magistrate First Class, Kamalpur, Dhalai District is hereby transferred to the High Court and is kept on compulsory waiting for future posting,” the notification said.
The notification added that the charge of the civil judge at Kamalpur (first class judicial magistrate) would be given to another judge until further orders.
“The charge of the Court and Office of the Civil Judge (Jr. Div.)-cum-Judicial Magistrate First Class, Kamalpur, Dhalai District shall remain with Smt. Madhumita Biswas, Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate-cum-Civil Judge (Jr. Div.), Kamalpur, Dhalai District until further order,” the notification read.
