The Delhi High Court has concluded hearings in the Sunjay Kapur estate dispute and reserved its order on the interim plea filed by his children with Karisma Kapoor against widow Priya Sachdev Kapur. The court also clarified that no further filings will be allowed before the judgment is pronounced.
New Delhi: The hearings in the personal estate dispute of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur have been going on before the Delhi High Court for the past few months. The case relates to a major inheritance battle involving his widow, Priya Sachdev Kapur, his mother Rani Kapur, and his children from his previous marriage with actor Karisma Kapoor.
The dispute started after Sunjay Kapur’s children, Samaira Kapur and Kiaan Raj Kapur, along with his mother, approached the Delhi High Court alleging that Priya Kapur had forged Sunjay Kapur’s will. They have challenged the validity of the will and claimed that it does not truly reflect Sunjay Kapur’s intentions regarding his multimillion-dollar personal estate.
On Wednesday, the Delhi High Court brought the hearings in the civil suit to a close and reserved its order on the interim injunction plea. Justice Jyoti Singh recorded that oral arguments in the matter had already been completed earlier.
The Court noted that the remaining written submissions filed by all the contesting parties had now been formally taken on record.
The judge further observed that all procedural requirements had been fulfilled and made it clear that
“No further filings would be entertained”
before the Court pronounces its order in the case.
During the hearings, Senior Advocate Rajiv Nayar, appearing on behalf of Priya Kapur, strongly denied the allegations that any assets belonging to Sunjay Kapur were siphoned abroad or hidden.
He also disputed the claim that Sunjay Kapur earned an annual income of Rs 60 crore, submitting before the Court that these allegations were incorrect and misleading.
The allegations mainly came from Sunjay Kapur’s mother, Rani Kapur. She claimed that Priya Kapur had disclosed bank balances of only Rs 1.7 crore, despite Sunjay Kapur allegedly having a salary of Rs 60 crore.
Senior Advocate Vaibhav Gaggar, representing Rani Kapur, argued before the High Court that it was highly improbable that Sunjay Kapur would have chosen to leave his entire personal estate only to Priya Kapur, completely excluding his mother and children.
At the same time, Senior Advocate Mahesh Jethmalani appeared for Sunjay Kapur’s children from his marriage with Karisma Kapoor, Samaira Kapur and Kiaan Raj Kapur. They challenged the genuineness of the will and sought an interim injunction to restrain Priya Kapur from dealing with or managing the estate until the dispute is finally decided.
With all arguments concluded and submissions filed, the Delhi High Court has now reserved its judgment on the interim injunction plea. The decision will play a crucial role in deciding the future course of the inheritance dispute and control over Sunjay Kapur’s personal estate.
Sunjay Kapur was the chairman of Sona Comstar, a well-known auto components manufacturing company with global operations.
He passed away in June in London after collapsing during a polo match. Sunjay Kapur was married to Karisma Kapoor from 2003 to 2016, and the couple had two children. He later married Priya Sachdev Kapur in 2017.
Last Hearing Background
On 22 December 2025, the Delhi High Court heard the matter relating to the personal estate of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur. During the hearing, the Court was informed that detailed oral arguments from all sides had already been completed in earlier hearings.
However, lawyers appearing for Karisma Kapoor and Rani Kapur sought additional time to complete and file their written submissions.
The counsel explained that written submissions were still being finalised and were necessary to place the parties’ complete legal arguments on record after the conclusion of oral hearings.
Taking note of the request, the Delhi High Court granted a short extension and directed that all written submissions must be filed by 24 December 2025.
The Court clarified that once the written submissions are filed, the matter would be taken up for further consideration.
