Today, On 13th February, The Delhi High Court issued a notice on Mandoli Jail’s plea challenging permission for Sukesh Chandrashekhar to wear a wristwatch. The jail authorities argue against allowing him to keep the watch inside the facility. This legal move adds to the ongoing scrutiny surrounding the high-profile inmate. The court’s decision could set a precedent for prison regulations on personal belongings.

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court issued notice on Thursday regarding a plea filed by the Mandoli Jail Authority, which challenges a trial court’s decision allowing Sukesh Chandrashekhar, the main accused in several cases currently imprisoned in Central Mandoli Jail, to wear a wristwatch while in custody.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) previously recorded Chandrashekhar’s statement in connection with an alleged extortion racket operating from Delhi prisons.

He is also the prime accused in a Rs 200 crore money laundering case under investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

The Jail Authority argues that this decision could compromise security and set a concerning precedent for other inmates, claiming that the trial court made an error in issuing the interim order dated January 10, 2025.

The plea asserts that the order is beyond the court’s jurisdiction, arbitrary, and should be dismissed and quashed. It notes that Sukesh Chandrashekhar has been in jail since 2017 due to various criminal cases and was transferred to Central Jail No. 13, Mandoli, on November 4, 2023.

The plea also highlights his unsatisfactory conduct, citing eleven recorded punishments and his involvement in a total of 23 cases.

Advocate Anant Malik represented Sukesh Chandrashekhar in this matter. The bench, led by Justice Vikas Mahajan, issued notice and scheduled the next hearing for March 17.

Additionally, the Patiala House Court in Delhi recently ordered media outlets to refrain from using the term “Conman” when reporting on Sukesh Chandrashekhar.

Sukesh Chandrashekhar is a controversial figure known for his involvement in multiple financial frauds and money laundering cases. He has been accused of running high-profile scams, including extortion and impersonation of government officials.

Currently incarcerated in Mandoli Jail, his privileges and prison conditions often spark legal debates. His name frequently appears in news related to financial crimes, celebrity connections, and prison controversies.
