The Calcutta High Court has directed the West Bengal School Service Commission to file a fresh list of 1,806 tainted candidates with complete details for proper identification. The court warned that incomplete information may allow tainted candidates to re-enter the ongoing recruitment process.
Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court has directed the West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC) to submit a fresh and more detailed report regarding 1,806 tainted candidates who were part of the 25,753 school job appointments cancelled earlier by the Supreme Court.
Justice Amrita Sinha, while taking note of a report already filed by the SSC, observed that the list provided was incomplete and not sufficient to clearly identify the tainted candidates.

The judge pointed out that although the list mentioned the roll number, name, subject, parent’s name and date of birth of the candidates, it failed to mention the category under which each candidate was found to be tainted.
The court also noted that the report did not include the name of the school or the district where the candidates were appointed under the first School Level Selection Test (SLST), 2016. According to the court, these details are essential for proper identification.
Justice Sinha directed the SSC to publish a revised list containing all relevant details so that the tainted candidates can be clearly identified without any confusion. The matter has now been listed for further hearing on February 11.
Referring to an earlier order dated November 19, 2025, Justice Sinha reiterated that the purpose of publishing the list is strictly to identify the tainted candidates. She cautioned that incomplete information could lead to serious consequences.
“If proper and complete details of the candidates are not disclosed in the list published by the commission, then there are chances that tainted candidates may slip through the net and participate in the fresh recruitment process,”
Justice Sinha observed, while passing the order on Wednesday.

During the hearing, the lawyer appearing for the commission informed the court that steps are already being taken to publish a more detailed list, as directed.
The SSC is currently conducting a fresh recruitment process through the second SLST, 2025, to fill teaching and non-teaching posts in government-run and government-aided schools across West Bengal.
The issue traces back to a major recruitment scam in the school education sector. After finding large-scale irregularities in the recruitment process, the Supreme Court had upheld an earlier order of the Calcutta High Court, which invalidated the appointments of 25,753 candidates.

The apex court ruled that the entire selection process was vitiated due to manipulation and illegal practices, leaving no option but to cancel the appointments.
This latest order of the Calcutta High Court aims to ensure transparency and fairness in the ongoing recruitment process and to prevent any tainted candidate from re-entering the system through the fresh selection exercise.
