The Bombay High Court has announced the sitting schedule for its newly formed Kolhapur Circuit Bench, starting August 18 with one division bench and two single-judge benches. CJI BR Gavai will inaugurate the bench on August 17 at 3:30 PM.
Mumbai: The Bombay High Court has officially announced the sitting schedule for its new circuit bench at Kolhapur. As per the notification issued on Thursday, the bench will start functioning from August 18 and will operate with one division bench and two single-judge benches.
Justice M S Karnik, currently posted at the principal seat in Mumbai, will head the division bench along with Justice Sharmila Deshmukh. The single-judge benches will be led by Justice Shivkumar Dige and Justice S G Chapalgaonkar.

The division bench will hear important cases such as Public Interest Litigation petitions, civil writ petitions, first appeals, family court appeals, contempt appeals, and other civil and criminal matters under its jurisdiction. These matters will cover cases from Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli, Solapur, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts.
Justice Dige’s single bench will deal with criminal appeals, criminal revision applications, bail applications, and other criminal matters that fall under the powers of a single judge.
Meanwhile, Justice Chapalgaonkar’s single bench will focus on civil writ petitions, civil applications, and other civil cases assigned to a single judge.
The inauguration of the Kolhapur circuit bench will be carried out by Chief Justice of India BR Gavai on August 17 at 3:30 PM.
