Senior Advocate Adish Aggarwala Takes WhatsApp to Delhi High Court Over ‘Arbitrary’ Account Suspension

NEW DELHI: Former Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President and Senior Advocate Adish Aggarwala has approached the Delhi High Court challenging the suspension of his WhatsApp account, calling it “arbitrary and unilateral.”

In his plea, Aggarwala stated that the suspension denied him access to important personal and professional data, including legal drafts, advocacy notes, Bar Council election materials, and communications. He argued that WhatsApp did not provide any prior notice or opportunity to retrieve his information, leaving him at a professional disadvantage.

Aggarwala highlighted that the suspension occurred during critical times, including international conferences in Bangkok, London, and Dubai, as well as functions in India, which he claims hampered his professional duties, election canvassing, and participation in legal events.

The plea asserts that WhatsApp’s actions violate his constitutional rights, specifically Articles 14, 19(1)(a), 19(1)(g), and 21, which protect equality, freedom of speech, and the right to practice any profession.

The petition has been filed through advocate Geeta Rani.
