The Kerala High Court will begin using WhatsApp to share e-filing defects, listing details, and case updates with advocates and litigants. Messages will come only from the verified sender ID: The High Court of Kerala.

The Kerala High Court has taken a new step to improve its communication system with lawyers and litigants. From October 6, 2025, the High Court will start using WhatsApp as part of its Case Management System (CMS).

This will make it easier for advocates, parties-in-person, and litigants to get updates directly on their mobile phones.

Through this new facility, information about e-filing defects, listing details, court proceedings, and other important updates will now also be sent via WhatsApp.

The Court has clarified that these services will be introduced slowly, in a phased manner, so that everyone can adapt to the system.

However, the High Court has also made it very clear that this is not a replacement for official court communication.

According to the notice,

“This WhatsApp messaging service would only be an additional mode of communication. It will not be a substitute for the issuance of notices, summons, or other processes, unless otherwise notified.”

The Court has further warned lawyers and parties that they cannot excuse themselves from attending court just because they did not receive a WhatsApp message or received it late.

The notice clearly says,

“Advocates and litigants cannot misuse any non-delivery or delay in delivery of the messages to justify non-appearance. They must cross-check and verify the information relayed via WhatsApp on the official court website.”

To make sure that people can trust the messages, the High Court stated that all updates will come only from its verified account.

As per the notice,

“All official messages from the High Court of Kerala will be sent exclusively from the verified sender ID: The High Court of Kerala.”

The service will be available on both the primary and secondary mobile numbers that are registered in the CMS system. For changing numbers, the procedure remains the same.

The notice explains,

“To change the primary number in the High Court CMS (https://ecourt.keralacourts.in/digicourt/), advocates and parties-in-person may submit a request through email, as per the existing procedure.”

For updating the secondary number, the process is even easier.

As stated,

“The secondary number can be updated directly through the Advocate Portal in the High Court CMS.”

This move by the Kerala High Court shows a strong effort towards modernising the justice delivery system and making court communication more user-friendly.

By using WhatsApp, the Court is aiming to reach people faster and make the legal process smoother, while still maintaining the importance of official notices through proper legal channels.
