The petition claimed that the suit filed on the afternoon of November 19, 2024, and within hours, the judge appointed a court commissioner to conduct an initial survey at the mosque site. According to the plea, the survey was conducted on the same day and again on November 24, with the court directing that the survey report be submitted by November 29.
After hearing from the counsel for both parties, the high court instructed the respondents to file their replies within four weeks and scheduled the next hearing for February 25.

Senior Advocate SFA Naqvi, representing the revisionist, stated that the survey was carried out on the evening of November 19, 2024, and again on November 24, 2024. The Sambhal Jama Masjid case revolves around a legal dispute concerning the maintainability of a suit claiming that the mosque was built on the site of a demolished temple. The controversy began when a petition was filed in a civil court seeking a survey of the mosque premises to determine its historical origins. A court commissioner was appointed, and an initial survey report was submitted.
However, the mosque’s management committee challenged the maintainability of the suit and the proceedings, citing procedural lapses and the Supreme Court’s directives. Concerns were raised about the speed of early judgments and the manner in which the survey was conducted. This prompted the mosque committee to file a revision plea in the Allahabad High Court, which has now issued stay on the civil court proceedings and sought responses from the concerned parties by February 25.
