Today, On 10th December, the Allahabad High Court postponed the hearing on a plea regarding the Gyanvapi mosque’s ‘wazukhana’ area to December 17. The petition challenges a Varanasi court’s order related to an Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) survey. The case involves ongoing disputes over the historical mosque and its origins.
The Allahabad High Court reserved its verdict on the Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Idgah mosque dispute, challenging the legality of the suits filed. The lawsuits seek the removal of the mosque, claiming it stands on the site of a demolished temple. The Muslim side argues that the suits are time-barred and should be dismissed. Senior advocate Manish Goyal has been appointed as amicus curiae in the matter, and the court is yet to address several issues.
The Supreme Court Today (April 1st) declined to halt the Varanasi court’s decision permitting Hindu groups to conduct worship in the southern cellar of the Gyanvapi Mosque. CJI Chandrachud led bench, directed both parties to maintain the status quo, allowing both communities to engage in religious prayers. Apex court also sought response of the Kashi Vishwanath Temple trustees on the plea of the mosque management committee.
