KOLKATA: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) have submitted a detailed report to the Calcutta High Court regarding an ongoing corruption case related to recruitment. This exposes allegations of corruption and malpractice in government job recruitments, unveiling a network of illegal transactions and unethical practices.
Justice Amrita Sinha of the Calcutta High Court, after a meticulous examination of the submitted report, made public her observations on Thursday. The findings from the CBI have been particularly striking, revealing a complex web of information and documents implicating the accused parties. “The CBI’s detailed report is multifaceted like a beehive,” indicating the intricate and extensive nature of the corruption uncovered.

The Central Investigation Agency continues to gather further evidence to strengthen its case against the accused individuals, as per the court’s directive. The revelation of alleged selling of government jobs at “cut-throat” prices within recruitment processes.
Justice Sinha, expressing her ongoing concerns, pointedly questioned the central investigators:
“When will the investigation be completed?”
Her frustration was palpable, especially regarding the delayed report of the voice sample analysis of a key figure in the case, Sujaykrishna Bhadra, also known as ‘Kalighater Kaku’. The delay in obtaining crucial evidence has been a significant stumbling block in the investigation’s progress.
The court’s findings have exposed the vast extent of corruption, indicating the exchange of money across different stages and departments, and even crossing state boundaries. The depth of these illegal activities has surprised judicial authorities, emphasizing the immediate requirement for a thorough and speedy investigation.
The court noted:
“Government jobs were sold at cut-throat prices,”
The anticipation for the trial is growing, with expectations that the presentation of the charge sheet will initiate a robust legal confrontation against the wrongdoers. However, there is a pressing concern that over time, the evidence may lose its impact.
In response to the findings, the court has urged the ED to adopt a more aggressive stance in its investigation, particularly in cases related to the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The directive calls for expedited efforts to obtain the voice sample of the accused from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), a step deemed crucial for advancing the case.
Moreover, the court has directed the Central Investigation Agency to conduct a thorough investigation into the activities of the ‘Leaps and Bounds’ firm, including the financial transactions of its directors and employees, which have aroused considerable suspicions. The press release from the ED has suggested substantial wealth accumulation by the firm, warranting further scrutiny.
The directive from the Calcutta High Court has set clear expectations for the CBI and ED: to complete their investigations with utmost urgency and diligence.
The next hearing, scheduled for April 24.
