The Delhi High Court questioned Rajpal Yadav’s failure to comply with his own financial commitments while hearing his bail plea in a cheque bounce case. The Court has adjourned the matter to Monday and directed the other side to file a reply.

The Delhi High Court on Thursday heard the bail plea of actor Rajpal Yadav in connection with a cheque bounce case. The matter was taken up by a Bench of HON’BLE DR. JUSTICE SWARANA KANTA SHARMA, and the proceedings drew significant attention from the film industry and the public.
The hearing, which was scheduled for 1 PM, focused on Yadav’s application seeking bail after he was sent to jail for failing to comply with court directions. His supporters and family members are closely watching the outcome and have expressed hope for his release.
During the proceedings, the counsel appearing for Rajpal Yadav requested the Court to consider the bail plea on humanitarian grounds. He submitted before the Court,
“This my bail application may be decided on the basis of marriage This is my only request for this Honourable Court because, there is a marriage of the petitioner’s daughter niece.”
In response, Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma observed,
“You are indirectly, what you are asking me is your interim suspension”
— indicating that the request was effectively for temporary suspension of the sentence.
The counsel clarified his position and stated,
“Your Lordship, I am asking only that the, commitment because he is before this Honourable Court, he has surrendered only because, the amount of two crore, ten lakh rupees he was not able to deposit.”
The lawyer attempted to explain that Yadav had surrendered before the Court and was unable to deposit ₹2.10 crore as directed.
However, the Court made a firm observation on compliance with judicial orders. Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma stated,
“No, you did not go to jail because the court passed this order. You went to jail, you have gone to jail because you did not comply with your own commitments to the court.”
The remark highlighted that the imprisonment was due to non-compliance with financial commitments made earlier before the Court.
Later in the day, the Court granted time to the counsel to take instructions from his client and give a final statement. The matter was briefly kept pending and was scheduled to resume at 2:30 PM.
Subsequently, the counsel for Rajpal Yadav informed the Court that he had attempted to contact his client but was unsuccessful. He submitted a formal bail application and requested the Court to consider it. The Court noted that a response from the opposing side is awaited.
After hearing the submissions, the Court adjourned the matter to Monday and directed the other side to file a reply to the bail plea. The next hearing will determine whether any interim relief is granted to the actor.
Meanwhile, support for Rajpal Yadav has grown within the film industry. Actor Mayank Arora publicly backed him following an earlier appeal by Sonu Sood. The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has also urged the film fraternity to extend moral and financial support to help him clear his liabilities and regain his freedom and dignity. The body has called upon members of the industry to stand together during this difficult time.
The case relates to alleged non-payment and cheque dishonour involving a significant amount of money. As legal proceedings continue before the Delhi High Court, all eyes remain on the next hearing date, which could play a crucial role in deciding the actor’s immediate future.
The development has sparked widespread discussion across legal and entertainment circles, especially regarding compliance with court orders, financial liabilities, and the conditions under which interim relief may be granted in cheque bounce cases.
The final outcome now depends on the Court’s decision after considering the response from the opposing party and the arguments on record.
