Today, On 19th July, President Murmu appointed seven additional judges of the Bombay High Court and three additional judges of the Delhi High Court as permanent judges. This significant move aims to enhance the judicial capacity and efficiency of these courts.
New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu, On Friday, appointed seven additional judges from the Bombay High Court and three additional judges from the Delhi High Court as permanent judges of their respective courts.
Additionally, the terms of two other Bombay High Court judges have been extended for one year through reappointment.
The newly appointed permanent judges of the Bombay High Court are Yanshivraj Gopichand Khobragade, Mahendra Wadhumal Chandwani, Abhay Sopanrao Waghwase, Ravindra Madhusudan Joshi, Santosh Govindrao Chapalgaonkar, Milind Manohar Sathaye, and Dr. Neela Kedar Gokhale.
For the Delhi High Court, the judges elevated to permanent positions are Girish Kathpalia, Manoj Jain, and Dharmesh Sharma.
Additionally, the terms of two additional judges of the Bombay High Court, Sanjay Anandrao Deshmukh and Justice Vrushali Vijay Joshi, have been extended. They have been reappointed as additional judges for a new term of one year, effective from October 7, 2024.

These appointments, part of a broader initiative to reduce the backlog of cases and enhance the overall efficiency of the judicial system in India. President Murmu’s decision followed the recommendations of the Supreme Court Collegium, which is tasked with the selection and appointment of judges to the higher judiciary.
