Madras: Today, 27th March, Prasanna Sankaranarayanan, co-founder of Rippling, has approached the Madras High Court alleging that the Tamil Nadu police have been harassing him due to false complaints filed by his estranged wife, Dhivya Sashidhar.
He claimed that his wife has been using legal complaints as a means to take away their son and move him out of India amidst their ongoing divorce case.
Sankaranarayanan took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) and shared a thread that went viral. In his plea, he alleged that the police have been continuously harassing him and attempting to take his son away based on a false kidnapping complaint filed by his wife.
The Madras High Court, presided over by Justice GK Ilanthiraiyan, has directed the police to refrain from harassing Sankaranarayanan.
According to his petition, on March 7, police attempted to enter his hotel room to take his child away. However, Sankaranarayanan had already left the hotel, making their attempt unsuccessful.
He further claimed that between March 12 and March 21, police visited his mother and his friend, Gokul S, in an attempt to trace his whereabouts and possibly take custody of his son.
Sankaranarayanan stated that his son is living happily with him. Despite this, he alleged that police made inquiries about his location, visited his mother, and even arrested his friend Gokul S in Bengaluru.
He further stated that Gokul was detained at a police station for three days without any official FIR against him.
Sankaranarayanan alleged, “The police authorities, instead of advising her to approach the competent Family Court, have repeatedly summoned and harassed the Petitioner, thereby causing mental agony, infringing his personal liberty under Article 21 and interfering in matters pending before civil courts.”
He also claimed that police told him they would release Gokul only if Sankaranarayanan came to the police station with his son.
Sankaranarayanan alleged that his wife has filed several false criminal cases against him in the US and Singapore. According to him, she is now employing similar tactics in India.
The petition mentioned that both parties had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in February. As per the MoU, they agreed to divorce by mutual consent and share joint custody of their son. Additionally, they decided to reside in Chennai, and the child’s travel documents were to be kept in a joint locker.
His wife later came to Chennai with their son, and on March 3, she voluntarily handed him over to Sankaranarayanan. However, he alleged that soon after, she filed a false complaint against him.
He further claimed that she violated the MoU by refusing to deposit their child’s travel documents in the joint locker and by not appearing before the Chennai court where their divorce case is pending.
Meanwhile, Dhivya Sashidhar has denied all allegations made by Sankaranarayanan. As per a Financial Express report, she stated that she filed a kidnapping complaint only to locate her son.
She also alleged that she was forced to sign the February MoU and that her son was forcibly taken from her custody by Sankaranarayanan’s friend, Gokul S.
Further, she reportedly claimed that she and her child were brought to India against her will under the pretext of a property dispute. She also alleged that Sankaranarayanan has a criminal history.
