[BREAKING] Post-Poll Violence in West Bengal| BJP Leader Suvendu Adhikari Files Petition in Calcutta HC

Today, On 10th June, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari approached the Calcutta High Court concerning the violence that erupted in West Bengal following the state elections. He is seeking judicial intervention to address and curb the incidents of post-poll violence. Adhikari’s move highlights the BJP’s concerns about the safety and security of its supporters in the region.

Calcutta: Suvendu Adhikari, On Monday, the Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, approached the Calcutta High Court. He claimed that various incidents of post-election violence occurring in the state following the Lok Sabha elections.

A division bench of the court, presided over by Chief Justice T.S. Sivagnanam, stated,

“The court will take up the BJP leader’s petition for hearing on Wednesday.”

Adhikari’s lawyer, Billwadal Bhattacharya, presented the case before the bench, which also comprised of Justice Hiranmay Bhattacharyya. Bhattacharya stated that the petitioner, Adhikari, was seeking an order for the protection of the victims.

The court also mentioned that another petition filed by lawyer Priyanka Tibrewal, regarding the alleged incidents of post-election violence in West Bengal, will be taken up for hearing on Wednesday as well.

Adhikari’s move comes in the wake of numerous reports and allegations of post-poll violence that have affected the state’s political landscape. The BJP consistently accused the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) of orchestrating violent attacks against its supporters and workers.

According to BJP claims, these attacks include physical assaults, arson, and widespread intimidation, leading to several deaths and displacements of BJP workers and sympathizers.

Adhikari sought the High Court’s intervention to ensure a thorough and impartial investigation into these incidents. He demanded that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or another independent agency be entrusted with the probe to guarantee that justice is served without any political bias.

Suvendu Adhikari‘s move is a testament to the ongoing struggle for justice and accountability in the face of political violence.

The court had previously directed the police to submit an affidavit regarding the incidents of post-election violence mentioned in the petitions.

Additionally, the court cautioned that if these complaints were not investigated in accordance with the law, then appropriate orders would be passed.
