The Bombay High Court has asked Mumbai Police to respond to Shehzeen Siddique’s plea seeking an SIT probe into her husband Baba Siddique’s murder. She alleged a builder–politician nexus behind the killing and claimed the real culprits are being protected.

Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Tuesday asked the Mumbai Police to respond to a petition filed by Shehzeen Siddique, the wife of late former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique, who was shot dead in October 2024.
In her plea, Shehzeen has requested that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) be formed to probe her husband’s murder, saying that the police have failed to catch the real culprits.
Shehzeen Siddique filed the petition last week, alleging that there was a builder-developer and political nexus behind her husband’s killing. She claimed that the current police investigation was not fair and that those truly responsible were being protected.
Baba Siddique, aged 66, was shot dead by three assailants outside his son Zeeshan Siddique’s office in Mumbai’s Bandra area on the night of October 12, 2024.
A division bench of Justices A. S. Gadkari and R. R. Bhonsale heard the case on Tuesday and directed the Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) and the investigation officer to file their affidavits in response to the petition. The bench also scheduled the next hearing for December 11.
The court further asked the police to produce the case diary related to the investigation during the next hearing. This direction came after confusion arose over whether the statement of Zeeshan Siddique, Baba Siddique’s son, had been officially recorded or not.
While the police maintained that they had been in contact with Zeeshan, the petitioner’s lawyers, Pradip Gharat and Trivankumar Karnani, told the court that his statement had not yet been recorded.

The High Court said,
“Show us the case diary. You say the statement of Zeeshan is recorded. He says it is not yet recorded. Support it with a case diary.”
The bench rejected the police’s verbal assurance and asked for documentary proof.
During the hearing, Special Public Prosecutor Mahesh Mule submitted that the police had been in contact with Zeeshan “many times” and had WhatsApp chats and call records to support this claim.
However, the bench made it clear that such informal communication was not sufficient. It said,
“He is in contact or not, we are not concerned. Show us legally admissible evidence. This is a crime investigation.”
In her plea, Shehzeen Siddique also alleged that the police had intentionally avoided arresting the real culprits by blaming the killing on Anmol Bishnoi, brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.
She stated that she had a strong suspicion about the involvement of a builder lobby and a political leader behind her husband’s death.
The Mumbai Police had filed a chargesheet in January 2025, naming Anmol Bishnoi as a wanted accused. According to the prosecution, Anmol Bishnoi allegedly conspired to kill Baba Siddique to instil fear and maintain dominance within the crime network.

So far, 26 people have been arrested and charge-sheeted in the case. They have all been booked under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) and are currently in judicial custody.
The court will now review the case diary, police affidavits, and investigation details on December 11, before deciding on the request for an SIT probe into the killing of the veteran politician.
