Justice Krishna S. Dixit of a single bench adjourned the hearing of Yediyurappa’s petition to quash the POCSO case against him until July 26.

Karnataka: Today (12th July): The Karnataka High Court exempted former Chief Minister and senior BJP leader BS Yediyurappa from appearing before the trial court on Monday, July 15, in connection with an alleged sexual harassment case involving a minor.

Justice Krishna S. Dixit of a single bench adjourned the hearing of Yediyurappa’s petition to quash the POCSO case against him until July 26.

This follows the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) filing a chargesheet against Yediyurappa on June 27.

The incident, which allegedly occurred on February 2, led to a complaint being lodged by the mother of a 17-year-old girl at Sadashivanagar police station in Bengaluru.

The mother alleged that Yediyurappa sexually assaulted her daughter during a meeting at his residence in Dollars Colony on February 2nd this year.

Earlier, Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara stated that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), which is handling the case, had issued a notice summoning Yediyurappa for questioning. He mentioned that Yediyurappa might be arrested if necessary.

The Sadashivanagar police registered the case against Yediyurappa on March 14, and the investigation was transferred to the CID the same day.

The 54-year-old woman who made the allegations against the BJP leader passed away last month due to lung cancer at a private hospital in Tumkuru.

Meanwhile, Yediyurappa, who has denied the allegations, filed a petition in the Karnataka High Court on Wednesday to quash the FIR against him.

Fearing arrest, the senior BJP leader filed an anticipatory bail petition in the Karnataka High CourtYediyurappa’s bail plea is scheduled to be heard by the high court on Friday, June 14.

Senior Advocate CV Nagesh, representing Yediyurappa, argued that the CID’s chargesheet was illegal. However, the court saw no urgency in hearing the matter due to the interim protection granted to Yediyurappa.

Previously, the Karnataka High Court had extended its interim order preventing the CID from arresting Yediyurappa, while allowing the prosecution to file objections to his petition to quash the FIR.
