“The organisation was bigger than the government, is bigger, and will always be bigger,” which appeared to target Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

The petitioner, advocate Manjesh Kumar Yadav, argues that Maurya’s remarks undermine the dignity of his office and cast doubts on the transparency and integrity of the government.
On July 14, during a one-day state working committee meeting of the BJP, Maurya stated,
“The organisation was bigger than the government, is bigger, and will always be bigger,” which appeared to target Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
The lack of response or denial from the BJP, the Governor, and the Election Commission has raised further concerns. The petition also highlights Maurya’s criminal history, noting his involvement in seven criminal cases before his appointment as Deputy Chief Minister.

The petitioner contends that appointing someone with such a record to a constitutional office is inappropriate and sets a dangerous precedent.
The PIL has been filed in the high court registry and is expected to be listed for hearing within the next few days.
