Justice Tirthankar Ghosh, presiding over the case, condemned the violence and ordered police to secure the mosque’s access points without delay.

Calcutta: Following a deadly altercation outside a mosque, the Calcutta High Court has directed police to intervene and prevent further violence. The clash, triggered by disputes over prayer schedules, led to one death and several injuries, prompting immediate judicial action.
Justice Tirthankar Ghosh, presiding over the case, condemned the violence and ordered police to secure the mosque’s access points without delay.
“Humanity above all,” remarked Justice Ghosh, questioning the rationale behind the violence. He added, “No religion advocates murder. Religion encompasses sentiment, consciousness, and emotions. When these are exceeded, hatred emerges. Above all is humanity.”
The directive was issued while addressing a long-standing plea that had earlier established designated prayer timings to avoid conflicts. The recent unrest, the court noted, not only disturbed community harmony but also obstructed justice.
