Mumbai: The Bombay High Court, On Wednesday, extended the interim bail of Jet Airways founder Naresh Goyal by two months on medical grounds.
Justice N J Jamadar granted this extension to allow the ailing 75-year-old businessman to continue his medical treatment.
This marks the second extension of interim bail for Goyal, who initially granted bail on May 6 after being arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with an alleged money laundering case.

The bail first extended on July 5 for four weeks.
Goyal, who is battling cancer, informed the court that he recently undergone a preliminary laparoscopic surgery and required further medical treatment. His counsel, Aabad Ponda, highlighted that Goyal not only dealing with physical health issues but was also suffering from depression.
The ED’s lawyer, Hiten Venegaonkar, argued that Goyal could receive all necessary medical treatment while being admitted to a hospital, without the need for bail extension. However, the court decided to extend the interim bail for two more months.
In September 2023, the ED arrested Goyal, accusing him of laundering funds and diverting loans totaling Rs 538.62 crore that, sanctioned to Jet Airways by Canara Bank. In November 2023, Goyal’s wife, Anita, was also taken into custody by the ED following the filing of a charge sheet.
However, she promptly granted bail by the special court due to her age and health condition. The ED’s investigation into the case highlights the allegations of financial misconduct within the now-defunct airline, Jet Airways, involving both Goyal and his wife.
In contrast to Naresh Goyal‘s situation, his wife, Anita Goyal, also implicated in the case, granted bail shortly after her arrest in November 2023. Her bail approved swiftly by the special court, citing her age and health conditions as mitigating factors.
His wife, Anita Goyal, also arrested in November 2023 when the ED submitted its charge sheet in the case. Due to her age and medical condition, she was granted bail by a special court on the same day of her arrest.
Tragically, Anita Goyal passed away on May 16.
The decision to extend his bail was made to allow further time for the investigation and to ensure that all aspects of the case are thoroughly examined. As the legal proceedings continue, this extension highlights the complexity and gravity of the charges being investigated.
