Soniya Vimal, a writer, has gone to the Madras High Court and filed a case against the filmmakers, saying that the story of HIT 3 is copied from her own work without permission.
Soniya said in her legal petition that the movie is very similar to her two scripts titled Agent 11 and Agent V, which she had written earlier. These scripts are not yet published. She registered her original story with the South Indian Film Writers’ Association on August 4, 2021, to protect her rights.
Later, hoping to work together, Soniya said she sent the synopsis of her script to Nani on August 8, 2022, but she got no reply from him or his team. Still, she believed something good might happen in the future.
But when she watched HIT: The Third Case in the theatre, she was shocked. According to Soniya, the movie’s story is almost the same as her script. She felt only a few parts were changed. She also gave the court a full comparison of her story and the movie’s plot as proof.
The Madras High Court took her claim seriously and issued a notice to the makers of the film. The court said:
“HIT: The Third Case (HIT 3) was an adaptation of her registered script and to permanently restrain the respondents from assigning any further rights of the movie and from committing any further acts of infringement.”
Soniya not only wants legal action but also compensation. She asked the court to order the filmmakers to show full details of the movie’s earnings. She is also asking for 20% of the profits as damages for using her story without her permission.
She also mentioned that she had earlier made an official complaint to the South Indian Film Writers’ Association, but no steps were taken by them. This added to her disappointment.
Even though Soniya is a fan of actor Nani, she said that her respect for him doesn’t mean her work can be used without her consent.
She stated:
“My admiration doesn’t change the fact that my story was allegedly used without permission.”
Till now, the makers of HIT 3 have not made any public comment or statement about this issue.
The movie HIT: The Third Case is a Telugu-language crime thriller directed and written by Sailesh Kolanu. It is produced by Wall Poster Cinema along with Unanimous Productions. The film stars Nani and Srinidhi Shetty in lead roles.
It is the third movie in the HIT franchise, following HIT: The Second Case released in 2022. The story focuses on a tough police officer from the Homicide Intervention Team (HIT) who is chasing a group of killers responsible for brutal and violent crimes.
