NEW DELHI: Former business partners of renowned cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Mihir Diwakar and Arun Pandey, have filed a defamation lawsuit against Dhoni. The suit, represented by advocates Rishi Awasthi and Smarhar Singh, alleges that Dhoni made defamatory statements which were widely circulated in the media, leading to a tarnished reputation for Diwakar and Pandey.

The plaintiffs have requested the court to issue an injunction, restraining Dhoni and his representatives from making any further defamatory allegations. Additionally, they seek directions to various digital platforms, including X (formerly Twitter), Google, YouTube, Meta (Facebook), and several news outlets, to remove the allegedly defamatory content related to them.

This legal action follows a criminal complaint previously filed by Dhoni in Ranchi against Diwakar and Pandey. The complaint, lodged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including criminal breach of trust, cheating, and forgery, accused them of violating a 2017 contract. This contract was for the operation of cricket academies and sports complexes globally under the names ‘MS Dhoni Cricket Academy’, ‘MS Dhoni Sports Academy’, or ‘MS Dhoni Sports Complex’.

Dhoni’s complaint highlighted that despite revoking his letter of authorization, Diwakar and Pandey continued to open numerous cricket academies under the contractually agreed names, leading to the current legal standoff.

The case brings to light the complexities and challenges in business partnerships, especially involving high-profile personalities like MS Dhoni. As the legal proceedings unfold, the sports and legal communities alike are keenly observing the developments of this case.
