Today 5th April, The Madras HC granted legal protection to a private school management against Coimbatore City Police’s “coercive action” in a case related to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent roadshow. Justice Jayachandran’s interim order maintains the protection until further notice and includes inquiries raised during a petition by a middle school headmistress to quash a March 19 FIR.
The Madras High Court provided legal protection to a private school management against any “coercive action” by the Coimbatore City Police. This protection comes in response to a case filed regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent roadshow in the city.

In an interim order , Justice Jayachandran stated,
“The protective order against coercive action, issued by the court on March 28, 2024, will remain in effect until further notice. The court also raised several questions during the hearing of a petition filed by the headmistress of a middle school”
The police booked the school management due to the participation of school children during the PM’s event. The petition sought to dismiss the First Information Report (FIR) filed on March 19 based on a complaint filed by the District Child Protection Officer.
The queries include the one as to how section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Care and Protection of Children Act would attract in the present case. Section 75 deals with punishment for cruelty to child, whoever having the actual charge of or control over a child, assaults, abandons, abuses, exposes or willfully neglects the child or causes or procures the child to be assaulted, abandoned, abused, exposed or neglected in a manner likely to cause such child unnecessary mental or physical suffering shall be punishable for a term which may extend to three years.
The judge scheduled the further hearing of the case for April 8 and instructed the law officer to be ready with relevant case laws to present arguments on that day.
