The division bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, comprising esteemed members, has issued a directive to the state government, mandating the submission of a comprehensive status report on the current state of affairs regarding the presentation of DNA-FSL reports in court. This action reflects the court’s determination to streamline the judicial process and mitigate the backlog of cases that have been accumulating due to procedural delays.

The Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, Ravi Malimath, along with Justice Vishal Mishra, has been at the forefront of this initiative, demonstrating their dedication to the cause of justice. The bench, hearing the case as a public interest litigation (PIL), has taken Suo motu cognizance of the issue, highlighting the critical nature of timely DNA-FSL report submissions in the legal framework.
This serious problem of delayed DNA-FSL (Forensic Science Laboratory) report receipts and their negative impact on case resolution. The plea highlights a troubling pattern where these delays lead to a backlog of cases in courts, causing a slowdown in the justice system. The court has taken notice of this issue by asking the chief secretary of the state for a response, underscoring the urgent need to address and resolve the problem.
During a recent hearing, the state government presented a report detailing the progress made in the timely presentation of DNA-FSL reports in courts.
