"Lizard on My Desk, Screen Flickering – I Couldn't Focus": JEE Aspirant's Shocking Plea Moves Delhi HC to Act Against NTA & IIT Kanpur

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court has sent a notice to IIT Kanpur, the National Testing Agency (NTA), and the Central Government. This action was taken after a student who appeared for the JEE Advanced exam last month complained of serious issues during the test.

He faced technical problems in the first session and a lizard scare in the second session, which badly affected his performance.

In the first part of the exam, the student said that his computer screen kept flickering and had very low brightness. This made it very hard for him to read anything properly on the screen.

In the second part of the paper, things got worse. A big lizard was sitting near the student’s computer. He felt scared throughout the exam. The lizard was removed not once but three times, but still kept coming back near his seat. The court was told all of this in the petition.

Because of these problems, the student said he could not give his exam properly. Now, through his petition, he is asking the court to allow his JEE Mains marks to be used instead of JEE Advanced marks.

After hearing the matter, Justice Vikas Mahajan gave an interim order and asked the concerned authorities to file a short affidavit. This affidavit must explain the rules and guidelines followed for conducting the JEE Advanced exam.

The court also came to know that CCTV cameras, which are supposed to work throughout the exam with AI monitoring, were not working during the test. This was a serious concern.

The Court said,

“Let respondents file a short affidavit indicating the guidelines governing conduct of JEE (Advanced). In case the respondent considers the said information to be confidential, as suggested, the same may be placed in a sealed cover,”

-while posting the matter for next hearing on July 8.

Advocates Tarun Diwan, Chiraayu Trehan, and Pyari represented the student who filed the petition.

Farman Ali, Special Panel Counsel, along with Usha Jamnal and Adil Hussain Taqvi, appeared for the Central Government.

Arjun Mitra represented IIT Kanpur and JEE Advanced.

Sanjay Khanna, Standing Counsel for NTA, appeared along with Pragya Bhushan, Tarandeep Singh, and Vilakshana Dayma.
