Earlier, advocate Beyline Das was suspended after a junior woman lawyer working under him at his office in Thiruvananthapuram accused him of assaulting her during a workplace argument. This led to disciplinary action from the Bar Council.

In response to the suspension, Das had filed a writ petition in the High Court, challenging the Bar Council’s decision that stopped him from practicing in any court.
On July 15, 2025, Justice N Nagaresh decided to close the petition, since the Bar Council had already revoked the suspension in a meeting held earlier on June 11, 2025, but with specific terms applied.
The High Court order recorded the statement:
“Senior Counsel representing Bar Council of Kerala submitted that the Bar Council in a meeting dated 11.07.2025 has considered representation submitted by the petitioner and the council decided that the restraint from practice pursuant to order dated 15.05.2025 shall be lifted subject to some conditions.”
While the case was being heard, Das’s lawyer raised concern that participating in disciplinary proceedings right now might negatively impact his defence in the ongoing criminal case related to the same incident, which is currently being heard in a trial court.
In response, the State Bar Council’s senior lawyer argued that the disciplinary action and criminal case can happen at the same time without one affecting the other.
The High Court clarified that it would not interfere in the Bar Council’s powers, but gave Das the liberty to raise his concerns directly before the Council.
The judge said:
“I find considerable force in the contention of the petitioner (Das) that giving evidence before the Bar Council of Kerala may affect his defence before the Criminal Court … These are matters which the petitioner can appraise before the Bar Council. If the petitioner raises concern before the Bar Council of Kerala, I am of the view that it will consider the same before proceeding with disciplinary proceedings.”
This statement led the Court to officially close the writ petition.
The issue started when a junior woman advocate accused Das of slapping her on May 13, 2025, during an argument in his office. She alleged that the slap caused serious injuries to her face.
After receiving her complaint, the Vanchiyoor Police filed a first information report (FIR) against Das under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 under the following sections:
- Section 126(2): Wrongful restraint
- Section 74: Assault on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty
- Section 115(2): Causing hurt
Das was arrested following the complaint and later released on bail by the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court in Thiruvananthapuram.
The Trivandrum Bar Association also conducted an internal investigation and suspended him from membership, while the Kerala Bar Council took suo motu action and banned him from court practice.
- Advocate Das was represented in the High Court by senior counsel PB Krishnan and advocate Akhil Suresh during the legal proceedings.
