According to detailed First Information Reports (FIRs) lodged at the Vidhan Soudha Police Station in Bengaluru. The FIR concerning Justice Pandit reveals a particularly audacious attempt at intimidation.
The unknown caller, masquerading as an official from the Department of Personnel and Training (DOPT), ominously suggested that a case was pending against the judge in Mumbai. This alleged case was tied to unauthorized advertisements and the dissemination of objectionable messages linked to a SIM card purportedly owned by the judge. The caller insinuated that the matter could be “settled” amicably if Justice Pandit agreed to communicate with “the police” officer, a conversation to which the call would be redirected.

The situation escalated when, after the call was transferred, a second individual, adopting a coercive tone, bluntly stated-
“If you provide monetary compensation, I will resolve the case.”
Recognizing the potential breadth and severity of this scam, which seemed aimed not just at them but at undermining public trust in the judiciary, they took decisive steps. Both justices highlighted their suspicions that these calls were part of a coordinated effort to harass and defraud the public.
Subsequently, on March 16, the Karnataka Police formalized the complaints into two separate FIRs based on the accounts provided by the High Court’s security staff. This action marks the beginning of a thorough investigation aimed at uncovering the identities of the culprits behind these menacing calls and ensuring such threats against the judiciary do not persist.
