BENGALURU: The Karnataka High Court, today(on 7th June), granted interim anticipatory bail to Bhavani Revanna, who is implicated in a kidnapping case linked to sexual abuse allegations against her son, suspended Janata Dal (Secular) leader Prajwal Revanna.
The Court stayed an arrest warrant issued earlier against Bhavani Revanna by an Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM). Consequently, the police have been ordered not to arrest or detain her.
Justice Krishna S Dixit, presiding over the matter, cautioned that the granting of anticipatory bail should not be “celebrated”. He emphasized that the bail is conditional and Bhavani Revanna must adhere to the requirements laid out by the court.
“The granting of anticipatory bail is not a cause for celebration,”
– Justice Dixit stated firmly.
The Court also stipulated that Bhavani Revanna must cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation. To this effect, she was directed to appear before the concerned investigating officer at 1 PM on the day of the order.
Furthermore, the Court imposed a condition that Bhavani Revanna must avoid the areas of KR Nagar in Mysore district and Hassan district, where the alleged kidnapping offense took place.
The Court’s interim order came in response to a petition filed by Bhavani Revanna, seeking protection from arrest in the kidnapping case. The matter is scheduled for a further hearing next week, where additional details and arguments are expected to be presented.
The allegations against Bhavani Revanna are serious. She is accused of being involved in the kidnapping of a woman who was reportedly sexually assaulted by her son, Prajwal Revanna. Prajwal, who is currently under arrest, faces multiple accusations of sexually assaulting several women and recording the assaults.
The case against Prajwal Revanna has garnered significant attention due to the severity of the allegations and his political background as a suspended leader of the Janata Dal (Secular) party. The accusations against him have led to public outrage and calls for stringent legal action.
The High Court’s decision to grant interim anticipatory bail to Bhavani Revanna, while providing her temporary relief, underscores the importance of her cooperation with the investigation. The legal proceedings continue to evolve, with the next hearing poised to shed more light on the intricate details of the case.

Last month, a series of videos surfaced in Karnataka, creating a political storm. Over 2,900 videos captured visuals of an assault linked to Prajwal Revanna, and pen drives containing these videos were found in various public places across the state. Amidst the turmoil, reports indicated that Prajwal Revanna had fled to Germany. However, upon his return to India on May 31, he was promptly arrested.
Yesterday, a trial court in Bengaluru extended the custody of Prajwal Revanna with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) until June 10. Meanwhile, both of Prajwal Revanna’s parents face serious allegations, including accusations of kidnapping a woman who was assaulted by Prajwal Revanna.
Appearing for the SIT, Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) Ravivarma Kumar told the High Court that Bhavani Revanna was the mastermind behind the kidnapping plot.
“I will prove she’s the mastermind; she should be barred from entering Hassan and Mysore.”
-the SPP urged the Court.
The Court incorporated this aspect as a condition for anticipatory bail, indicating the gravity of the allegations. The matter is scheduled to be heard again next week.
In addition to this, the Court today briefly addressed two other connected matters. The SIT’s plea to cancel the bail previously granted to HD Revanna in the kidnapping case has been adjourned until next week upon the request of Revanna’s counsel.
