BENGALURU: On Friday(26th July),the Karnataka High Court extended former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa’s exemption from personal court appearance in the POCSO case against him. The hearing, overseen by a bench consisting of Justice Krishna S. Dixit, deferred the consideration of Yediyurappa’s petition seeking dismissal of the case. The court postponed the matter for a week, effectively providing Yediyurappa with a temporary reprieve from arrest.
Yediyurappa, a prominent leader in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has encountered legal difficulties following allegations of sexual harassment involving a minor. According to the complaint, a woman accused Yediyurappa of sexually harassing her 17-year-old daughter during a meeting that was intended to address some of their grievances.
Following this serious allegation, the police issued two notices to Yediyurappa, summoning him to appear before the investigating officer. However, Yediyurappa’s failure to comply with these notices led the police to seek an arrest warrant from a city court.

In response to the legal actions taken against him, Yediyurappa approached the High Court. He argued that the First Information Report (FIR) filed against him was without merit and sought its quashing. During the ongoing legal proceedings, the High Court has temporarily restrained the police from taking any immediate action against the former Chief Minister.
The court’s decision to defer the hearing grants Yediyurappa a brief respite as he continues to contest the allegations. The case has drawn significant attention due to Yediyurappa’s high-profile status within the BJP and his previous role as the Chief Minister of Karnataka.
