Karnataka Govt Staffs Suspended For Illegal Party Inside High Court After Turning Off CCTV

BENGALURU: In a surprising and serious incident, the Karnataka Public Works Department (PWD) has suspended five of its employees for organizing a private birthday party inside the Karnataka High Court building. The officials reportedly turned off the CCTV cameras before holding the party.

This act has been called illegal and a big security concern.

The suspended officials include First Division Assistant G.H. Chikkegowda and Assistant Engineers Lavanya, Meena A.T., Naveen, and Amin S. Anandini. All of them have been suspended until a departmental inquiry is completed or further action is taken against them.

The suspension order was issued on April 5, and it clearly said that the act of switching off CCTV cameras without permission to celebrate a birthday party was a serious failure in duty. It also created a major security issue.

The official order stated,

“Such conduct is not expected from government employees.”

Due to this reason, the department has decided to take disciplinary action against them.

The order also pointed out that only official events, which celebrate respected or notable people as informed by the government, should be conducted in government offices. It clearly mentioned that having a private birthday party, that too inside a high-security place like the High Court, is a serious mistake.

The government order said,

“A private birthday party for a staff member at the high-security High Court building constitutes a serious offence.”

The illegal party reportedly took place in February this year, and a complaint regarding this incident was filed in March. After the complaint, the Chief Engineer (Communication and Building), based in Shivamogga, started an investigation into this matter.

The inquiry found that not only the five suspended officials but also some other staff members were involved in planning and organizing the party at the High Court building. During the celebration, the CCTV system was allegedly turned off under instructions from Chikkegowda.

The government order dated April 5 also highlighted that two of the suspended persons, Lavanya and Amin S. Anandini, were not even working at the High Court—they were outsiders.

Also, it was found that Meena A.T., whose birthday was celebrated, was not a regular High Court staff member. She was temporarily working there from the Urban Development Department on assignment. As per the order,

“Meena AT, whose birthday was celebrated, was also working at the Urban Development Department on assignment.”

This whole incident has raised serious questions about the misuse of government spaces and staff behavior.

The government is now taking strict steps to handle such violations and ensure security and discipline in official premises.
