Today, On 7th April, The Telangana government moved the High Court seeking action against AI-generated fake content related to the Kancha Gachibowli protest. The protest, led by students and activists, was against the government’s plan to develop forest land near Hyderabad. Fake videos and images were circulated online, falsely showing violence and environmental damage. The government wants strict action to prevent the spread of such misleading content.

Hyderabad: The Telangana government submitted a petition to the High Court seeking action against AI-generated content that allegedly spreads false narratives regarding a 400-acre land parcel at Kancha Gachibowli.
This move followed Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s serious concerns about the misleading information that has hindered the government’s efforts to develop IT infrastructure on the land adjacent to the University of Hyderabad (UoH).
On April 5, he directed officials to seek court intervention to investigate the creation of “misleading AI content” related to the purported encroachment of UoH lands.
The Telangana government’s initiative to develop the 400 acres in Kancha Gachibowli for IT infrastructure has led to protests by the UoH Students’ Union. The issue is currently under consideration in both the Telangana High Court and the Supreme Court.
The protesting students argue that the 400 acres rightfully belong to the university, while the state government maintains that it owns the land.
The protest at Kancha Gachibowli revolves around a 400-acre land parcel in Hyderabad, Telangana, located next to the University of Hyderabad (UoH).
In February 2025, the Telangana government announced plans to auction this land for IT park development, aiming to attract investment and create jobs.
This decision faced strong backlash from UoH students, environmental activists, and local residents, who raised concerns about potential ecological harm and the loss of one of the city’s few remaining urban forests.
The controversy has gathered national attention, with numerous public figures and celebrities expressing their opinions on the matter.
The Supreme Court intervened, instructing the Telangana government to suspend deforestation activities in the region.
In response, the state government established a ministerial committee to engage with stakeholders, including UoH’s executive council, civil society organizations, and student representatives, in order to seek a resolution to the land dispute.
