Jai Anant Dehadrai withdrawn his defamation case against Mahua Moitra in the Delhi High Court after being labeled as “jobless” and “jilted” by her.

NEW DELHI: Today (25th April): Advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai has withdrawn his defamation case against Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mahua Moitra in the Delhi High Court. Dehadrai had accused Moitra of making defamatory allegations against him, including calling him “jobless” and “jilted” in interviews with the media. However, during the hearing, Dehadrai’s counsel expressed willingness to withdraw the suit if Moitra agreed not to make false statements about him.

“Instructed by the plaintiff’s learned counsel, permission is sought to withdraw the suit. Accordingly, the suit is dismissed as withdrawn,”
recorded Justice Prateek Jalan in his order.
During the hearing, Advocate Raghav Awasthi, representing Dehadrai, stated that his client would withdraw the suit unconditionally if Moitra provided an assurance that she would refrain from making palpably false statements against him. Moitra’s counsel, Advocate Samudra Sarangi, responded that he would seek instructions on this matter.

Justice Jalan appreciated the positive suggestion made by Dehadrai, emphasizing that resolving the dispute outside the public domain would be beneficial for both parties. The court suggested that the lawyers from both sides should collaborate to finalize an order that would prevent the making of personal allegations against each other.
Awasthi subsequently declared that Dehadrai was unconditionally withdrawing the suit.
He stated, “I would then like to withdraw this suit. I would like to withdraw unconditionally.”
The court accepted the request and allowed the withdrawal of the suit.
Dehadrai filed Rs 2 crore defamation suit against Moitra, seeking directions to restrain her from making defamatory allegations. Dehadrai had earlier accused Moitra of accepting bribes from businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for asking questions in Parliament. Moitra filed a defamation suit against Dehadrai and another BJP MP, Nishikant Dubey, in response.
However, Moitra’s plea for an interim injunction was rejected by the High Court, which stated that the allegations of Moitra sharing her parliamentary login credentials with Hiranandani and receiving gifts from him were not entirely false.
