The Jharkhand High Court directed the CBI to provide a detailed report on active criminal cases concerning Members of Parliament (MPs) and state Legislative Assembly members (MLAs). This directive aims to gather comprehensive information about ongoing legal proceedings involving these political figures. The court’s decision highlights a commitment to transparency and accountability in addressing legal matters related to elected officials.

Jharkhand: On Friday, the Jharkhand High Court issued a directive to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to submit a comprehensive report regarding the ongoing criminal cases involving Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) from the state. The court requested the CBI to provide the status report in the form of an affidavit. Additionally, during the proceedings, the court inquired about the cause behind the CBI’s delay in submitting cases and presenting witnesses before the court.
The court directed the investigating agency to submit the report.

During the hearing, the court noted,
“What is the current status of the trials and the causes of the delays? How many cases remain unresolved involving MPs and MLAs?”
Advocate Dhiraj Kumar stated that the next hearing regarding this matter is scheduled for April 16.
Following directions from the Supreme Court to expedite cases involving lawmakers, six MP/MLA courts in Jharkhand aactively addressing criminal cases against public officials.
The court initiated hearings after taking note of pending cases against public representatives.
Candidate declarations during Assembly election nominations revealed that 41 out of 81 MLAs pending criminal cases, accounting for 51% of the house.
Currently, there approximately 167 pending cases in court involving current and former MPs and MLAs.
