Telangana: Jani Master, a renowned National Award-winning choreographer, has been granted bail by the Telangana High Court after being arrested in a high-profile sexual assault case. The case stems from allegations made by a woman who worked with him, accusing him of sexual assault during outdoor shoots. The Cyberabad Police arrested Jani Master last month after conducting a widespread search operation.
Following a tip-off, three police teams were dispatched to Nellore, Goa, and Bengaluru to locate Jani Master, who was finally arrested in Bengaluru. A case was registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, highlighting the seriousness of the accusations. The Raidurgam police initially registered a zero FIR, which was then transferred to the Narsingi police station, where the complainant resides.
In light of the allegations, the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce formed a panel to investigate the claims of sexual harassment against Jani Master.
The issue also caught the attention of the Telangana State Commission for Women, with chairperson Nerella Sharada confirming that the complainant approached the Commission. Sharada assured the woman of police protection and extended further assistance.
The case has also sparked political reactions. The Telangana BJP Mahila Morcha issued a statement labeling the case as a potential example of “Love Jihad”. Additionally, the Jana Sena Party, led by Pawan Kalyan, distanced itself from Jani Master, urging him to stay away from party activities due to the pending legal case. Jani Master had previously campaigned for the party in recent elections.
The Telangana High Court’s decision to grant bail will likely bring more attention to this case as investigations and legal proceedings continue.
