This alarming revelation was made during a court session presided over by Justices MS Ramesh and Sunder Mohan.
The police communicated this information verbally, bringing to light the ongoing investigations surrounding the cases of these missing individuals. “The police made the submission orally,” encapsulates the formal communication channel through which this information was relayed to the judicial authorities.
In response to the police’s disclosures, the Bench did not merely acknowledge the unsettling information but went a step further by mandating the law enforcement authorities to prepare a detailed status report on the investigation’s progress. The court has set a deadline for this crucial document, ordering that it be submitted by April 18, the subsequent scheduled hearing date.
The circumstances leading to this judicial inquiry began with a habeas corpus petition, a legal plea demanding the presentation of an individual before a court to ensure their safety and liberty. This specific petition was initiated by Thirumalai, hailing from the Tirunelveli district, concerning the baffling disappearance of his brother, Ganesan, who was last seen at the Isha Foundation in March of the preceding year.
Thirumalai’s concerns escalated following several unsuccessful attempts to contact his brother, prompting him to reach out directly to the Isha Foundation. The response he received was both unsettling and inadequate, as he recounted to the court,
“However, all that the Foundation had told him at the time was that his brother, who worked at the ashram, had not reported for two days.”
Dissatisfied and increasingly anxious, Thirumalai proceeded to file a formal police complaint, culminating in his legal appeal to the High Court.
This sequence of events has cast a spotlight on the Isha Foundation, prompting inquiries and investigations into the nature of these disappearances and the conditions within the spiritual center. As the April 18 hearing approaches, all eyes will be on the Tamil Nadu Police and the Madras High Court as they unravel the mystery of the missing individuals associated with the Isha Foundation.
