Today, On 15th October, In the INX Media case, the Delhi High Court has relaxed foreign travel restrictions on Congress MP Karti Chidambaram. He had earlier been granted bail but was required to seek the trial court’s permission before travelling abroad.

The Delhi High Court granted permission to Congress Member of Parliament (MP) Karti Chidambaram to travel internationally without needing to seek approval from the trial court for each trip.

Justice Ravinder Dudeja eased the travel restrictions that were previously imposed on Chidambaram.

However, the Court stipulated that he must submit a detailed itinerary of his intended travels to the authorities at least two weeks in advance.

Chidambaram’s case is linked to the alleged INX Media scam, with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registering a case on May 15, 2017.

The allegations center around irregularities in a Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance that allowed the media group to receive Rs.305 crore in overseas funding in 2007, at a time when his father, P Chidambaram, served as the Union Finance Minister.

In March 2018, the High Court had granted bail to Karti Chidambaram, imposing a condition that he should not leave India without the trial court’s consent.

In his recent application, Chidambaram argued that he travels frequently and has been visiting various countries with the Court’s approval. He requested a relaxation of the travel condition specifically for countries he often visits, including the United Kingdom, Spain, France, Italy, Germany, and the USA.

The CBI opposed this request.

Karti Chidambaram was represented by Senior Advocate Sidharth Luthra, along with advocates Arshdeep Singh Khurana, Akshat Gupta, Harsh Srivastava, Sidak Singh Anand, and Madhushruthi Neelkantan.

The CBI’s case was presented by Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) Anupam S Sharrma and advocates Harpreet Kabi, Vashist Rao, Ripudaman Sharma, Vishesh Jain, Syamantak Mudgil, Anant Prakash Mishra, and Riya Sachdeva.
