The Allahabad High Court announced that from March 17, 2026, all non-AFR final judgments and orders will be translated into Hindi, marking its 160th Establishment Day and aiming to improve accessibility for litigants and the general public.

PRAYAGRAJ: Marking a significant advance in judicial accessibility, the Allahabad High Court has announced that, from March 17, 2026, all non‑AFR final judgments and orders will be translated into Hindi. This move, timed with the Court’s 160th Establishment Day, is designed to reduce language barriers for litigants and the public.

The Court has designated March 17, 2026, as an “establishment milestone,” reflecting its origins in 1866. To honor 160 years of its judicial history, the Court chose this date to begin Hindi translations of all non‑AFR final judgments and orders issued by both Benches (Allahabad and Lucknow).

Under the new policy, the High Court will translate into Hindi all non‑AFR final judgments or orders that are three pages or longer, in addition to the existing practice for AFR judgments.

The initiative also covers judgments of the Hon’ble Supreme Court in matters arising from Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh. Translated versions will be published digitally on the High Court’s official website.

The SUVAS Cell at both the Allahabad and Lucknow Benches will carry out the translation work. The project is being implemented under the patronage of the Hon’ble Chief Justice and with direction from the AI‑Assisted Legal Translation Advisory, the e‑AHCR (Electronic Allahabad High Court Reports), and the ILR (Indian Law Reports) Committee.

The decision responds to increasing demand for multilingual judicial materials in linguistically diverse Uttar Pradesh. By offering judgments in the region’s principal language, the Court intends to make justice not only available but also comprehensible to all citizens.
