The Allahabad High Court has summoned the Prayagraj Police Commissioner in connection with a contempt petition. The case involves allegations of non-compliance with court orders by the police. The summons highlights the court’s concern over adherence to judicial directives. Further proceedings are expected to address the issue and ensure accountability.

Prayagraj: The Allahabad High Court ordered Prayagraj Police Commissioner Tarun Gauba and other officers to appear before it on December 10 regarding a contempt petition.
The court wants to know what actions have been taken against the police personnel who delayed lodging an FIR despite a complaint from the applicant.
The hearing, prompted by a petition from Balram Yadav, was scheduled for December 10 by Justice Salil Kumar Rai.
Yadav filed a complaint at Ghurpur Police Station, Prayagraj, alleging that Arpit, a representative of a local MLA, attacked his father on September 25, leading to his death. He claimed that the FIR was not filed due to political pressure, which violates court guidelines.
Following a previous court directive, the Prayagraj Police Commissioner, the DCP of Yamuna Nagar, and other officials appeared before the court on November 28.
In their affidavit, the police stated that an FIR had been registered based on Yadav’s complaint and that a preliminary inquiry into the conduct of the police officer responsible for the FIR delay had been initiated.

However, the court noted that the affidavit did not clarify whether any action would be taken against the officer in question. In response, the additional advocate general, representing the state, requested an additional week to submit a more detailed affidavit.
A contempt petition is a legal request filed in court, accusing a party of willfully disobeying or disregarding a court’s orders. It aims to uphold the authority of the judiciary by addressing non-compliance and ensuring accountability. If found guilty, the accused may face penalties, fines, or other legal consequences.
