Shivakumar claimed there is a “major conspiracy” targeting the Chief Minister, emphasizing that Siddaramaiah has done nothing wrong and will emerge unscathed.

BENGALURU: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar stated on Tuesday(24th Sept) that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will not be stepping down despite the High Court’s dismissal of his petition challenging Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot’s approval for an investigation into a site allotment case.

Shivakumar claimed there is a “major conspiracy” targeting the Chief Minister, emphasizing that Siddaramaiah has done nothing wrong and will emerge unscathed.

When asked about the BJP’s demand for Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s resignation following the High Court’s order, Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar responded,

“There is no question of resignation; the CM has done nothing wrong. He is not involved in any scam. This is a political conspiracy by the BJP targeting opposition leaders across the country.”

Shivakumar, who also serves as the state Congress President, expressed his party’s full support for the Chief Minister, praising his leadership both for the party and the state. He was responding to the High Court’s dismissal of Siddaramaiah’s petition challenging the Governor’s approval for an investigation in the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) site allotment case.

“There is a major conspiracy against our Chief Minister, similar to the one the BJP plotted against me, filing a case that led to my imprisonment. By God’s grace, I was cleared, and the case that sent me to jail was dismissed. The BJP has now hatched a similar conspiracy against the CM and his family,”

said Shivakumar.

Speaking to reporters after sharing the stage with Siddaramaiah at an event, he asserted,

“Siddaramaiah will emerge clean. Let any investigation be carried out. In my view, he has done nothing wrong. We stand firmly with the Chief Minister.”

Shivakumar further claimed that the BJP cannot tolerate the welfare schemes implemented by Siddaramaiah’s government, calling it a “big conspiracy.”

When asked whether the court’s order was a setback for the Chief Minister and his government, Shivakumar replied, “I need to review the order…what setback? You are saying the court has directed an investigation, but I need to see it.”

Similarly, Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda announced that the Karnataka government plans to challenge the High Court’s ruling on the sanction for prosecuting the Chief Minister before the Division Bench of the Karnataka High Court.

“We will take the matter to the Division Bench, and if needed, we will consider moving to the Supreme Court,”

said Gowda.

He accused the Opposition BJP of orchestrating a political conspiracy aimed at destabilizing Congress and other non-BJP governments across the country.

“We will fight this aggressively,” he declared, further alleging that the Raj Bhavan has been “turned into a BJP office.”

Gowda also criticized the Narendra Modi-led central government, accusing it of using agencies like the ED and CBI to imprison ministers and chief ministers, claiming these actions were part of a larger effort to undermine democracy.

What is MUDA Scam

The MUDA scam case involves allegations made by three anti-corruption activists T J Abraham, Snehamayi Krishna, and Pradeep Kumar who approached the Karnataka Governor in July, seeking permission to file complaints against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

They claimed that Siddaramaiah’s wife, Parvathi, had received 14 housing sites from the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) in exchange for a 3.16-acre plot of land that MUDA had illegally acquired in 2021 during the previous BJP-led government’s tenure. This allegedly caused a Rs. 55.80 crore loss to the state.

On July 26, Karnataka Governor Thawarchand Gehlot issued a show cause notice to Siddaramaiah. Although Karnataka’s Council of Ministers passed a resolution on August 1 urging the Governor to withdraw the notice, the Governor sanctioned proceedings against Siddaramaiah under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, on August 16.
