The court has directed the jail authorities to furnish details of the treatment being administered to Pillai and ordered the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to submit its response to his bail plea. Previously, the court had asked the ED to authenticate Pillai’s medical reports.

New Delhi: Today (11th June): The Delhi High Court requested the jail superintendent to provide a report on the medical condition of Arun Ramchandra Pillai, a Hyderabad businessman held in judicial custody due to his involvement in a money laundering case linked to the alleged Delhi Excise scam.

Pillai, seeking interim bail on medical grounds, cited health issues including back pain and expressed a need for specialized treatment at an ayurvedic clinic in Kerala.

The court has directed the jail authorities to furnish details of the treatment being administered to Pillai and ordered the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to submit its response to his bail plea. Previously, the court had asked the ED to authenticate Pillai’s medical reports.

“Meanwhile, Justice Amit Sharma has requested the latest medical report on Arun Ramchandra Pillai’s health and treatment from the relevant jail superintendent,” stated the court.

It has scheduled the next hearing for June 14 and directed the jail superintendent to receive a copy of the order for necessary action. Despite prior instructions to the Enforcement Directorate to respond, the court was informed by the agency’s counsel that the reply has been submitted but not formally recorded yet.”

Pillai was arrested in March last year over allegations of his involvement in representing the “South Group” during discussions related to the 2021 excise policy, which allegedly involved significant kickbacks to the ruling AAP dispensation.

The excise policy came under scrutiny, leading to its cancellation in 2022 and the initiation of a CBI probe into possible corruption. The ED has asserted that Pillai is closely associated with Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha, who is also in custody in connection with the case.

The court is set to further deliberate on the matter on June 14, awaiting necessary reports and responses.
