[Hamare Baarah] Bombay HC Halts Release | Hearing Scheduled for June 10

MUMBAI: The Bombay High Court issued a temporary injunction against the release of the film “Hamare Baarah,” starring Annu Kapoor. The film was initially slated to hit theaters on June 7, but it now faces legal challenges that have postponed its release until at least June 14.

The court’s decision came in response to a petition filed by Azhar Tamboli, a resident of Pune, who argues that the film is offensive to Muslim sentiments and misrepresents the Quran. The controversy surrounding the film has intensified following the release of its trailer and teaser, which Tamboli claims contain objectionable dialogues that could incite communal tensions.

The court has scheduled a hearing on June 10 to delve deeper into the allegations and review the film’s content. Tamboli has questioned the Central Board of Film Certification’s (CBFC) decision to award the film a U/A certification, suggesting that the film may need further review and potential edits to comply with regulatory standards.

Advocate Adwait Sethna, representing the CBFC, indicated that the board has been asked to consider making cuts to certain scenes and dialogues before the film can be released. This development comes amid threats of violence and demands for security by the cast, including Annu Kapoor.

In a recent video, Kapoor appealed to the Maharashtra Police and the Ministry of Home Affairs for protection. He emphasized that the film should not be judged without being viewed in its entirety. Kapoor met with Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Monday to discuss these security concerns.

Kapoor argues that “Hamare Baarah” focuses on women’s empowerment and the issue of population growth, stating that the film does not target any religious community specifically. He urged the public and critics to watch the film before forming opinions.

“The film is aimed at highlighting important social issues such as women’s empowerment and population control, It does not target any particular religious community. I appeal to everyone to view the film in its entirety before passing judgment.”

-said Kapoor.

The court’s injunction and the subsequent hearing will determine the future course of action regarding the film’s release. As the legal proceedings continue, the debate over the film’s content and its potential impact on communal harmony remains a topic of significant public interest.
