Himachal Pradesh: On 4th July: The Himachal Pradesh High Court recently granted interim bail to an accused under the newly enacted Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), marking its first such order for an offence under this Act.

The accused, Baldev Singh, was charged by Police Station Jawalamukhi in Kangra district under BNS Sections 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 351(2) (criminal intimidation), along with Sections 3(1)(r) and 3(1)(s) of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.
Considering the nature of the offence, Justice Rakesh Kainthla granted him interim bail upon furnishing a personal bond of Rs 25,000.
On July 4, Baldev Singh surrendered before the High Court and was represented by legal counsel.
The court also directed him to cooperate with the ongoing investigation as per the police’s directives.

Additionally, the High Court allowed Additional Advocate General Jitender K Sharma two weeks to file a reply to the bail application and instructed the state to inform the informant about the bail application’s status and upcoming hearing, scheduled for July 14. Advocate Ganesh Barowalia appeared for the petitioner in this case.
