The Calcutta High Court directed the West Bengal School Service Commission and the state government to file affidavits on a petition alleging violation of the Right of Persons with Disabilities Act in the SLST 2025 school recruitment process.
The Calcutta High Court instructed the West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC) and the state government to submit affidavits regarding a petition alleging non-compliance with the Right of Persons with Disabilities Act in the SLST 2025 for school job recruitments.
The petitioner’s attorney asserted that 100 vacancies designated for persons with disabilities remained unfilled due to a lack of suitable candidates.
The petitioner has requested a court order to prevent the commission from altering the nature of these vacancies before making appointments.

Justice Amrita Sinha mandated that the SSC and the state government submit their affidavits in response to the petitioner’s claims within four weeks, and the petitioner must reply within two weeks thereafter.
The court emphasized that actions taken by the commission concerning the 100 unfilled vacancies will be contingent upon the outcome of the petition.
This case challenges the reservation provisions in the second School Level Selection Test (SLST) 2025, conducted by the SSC for recruiting assistant teachers in West Bengal’s government-operated and aided schools.
According to the petitioner, the recruitment process failed to adhere to the stipulations set forth in the Right of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, and its associated rules.

The SSC contended that it implemented the reservations in strict accordance with the law and relevant rules.
Both the SSC and the West Bengal government, who oppose the petitioner’s request, have requested additional time to file their affidavits addressing the petitioner’s arguments.
