The legal dispute between actors Dhanush and Nayanthara has reached a crucial stage, with the Madras High Court setting the final hearing date for April 9, 2025. The case revolves around Dhanush’s Rs. 10 crore lawsuit against Nayanthara for allegedly using behind-the-scenes footage from Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in her Netflix documentary without permission.
Chennai: The Madras High Court adjourned the final hearing of actor Dhanush’s Rs.10 crore compensation lawsuit against actress Nayanthara and director Vignesh Shivan to April 9.
The lawsuit initiated by Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films, which claims that footage from the film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan was used without authorization in Nayanthara’s wedding documentary.
Dhanush’s legal team previously sent a notice to Nayanthara, asserting that scenes from Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, produced by Wunderbar Films, were included in the documentary without permission and demanded Rs.10 crore in damages.

In her response, Nayanthara stirred controversy within the film industry by stating that she had sought permission from Dhanush, who allegedly chose not to reply. She accused Dhanush of waiting until after the documentary’s release to issue a legal notice and labeled the compensation demand as excessive for just three seconds of footage.
In light of this, Wunderbar Films filed a lawsuit against Nayanthara in the Madras High Court and also sought permission to take legal action against Netflix India, which distributed the documentary.
During a hearing presided over by Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy, the court decided to postpone the final hearing of the Rs.10 crore lawsuit until April 9.

Dhanush filed the case against Nayanthara, her husband Vignesh Shivan, and their production company, Rowdy Pictures Private Limited, in November last year. His legal complaint claimed that visuals from the film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan were included in the Netflix documentary Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairy Tale without obtaining proper authorization.
Nayanthara replied with an open letter, saying that Dhanush was holding a personal grudge against her, mainly because of her relationship with director Vignesh Shivan, which started during the filming of Naanum Rowdy Dhaan. She also said that she had waited for almost two years for Dhanush to give her permission to use the footage in her documentary, but he never gave it.
The case has seen many updates, including the Madras High Court rejecting Netflix’s request to cancel Wunderbar Productions’ case. The court has now fixed the final hearing for April 9, 2025.
