The Delhi High Court has sought a reply from Salman Khan within four weeks after a China-based AI firm challenged the December 11 order protecting his voice and identity. Next hearing is on February 27.

The Delhi High Court issued a notice to Bollywood actor Salman Khan in response to a petition from a China-based AI voice-generation platform.

The court has requested a reply to the notice within four weeks, with the next hearing scheduled for February 27.

This petition aims to challenge the interim order made by the High Court that safeguards Salman Khan’s personality rights. Specifically, it seeks to overturn the December 11 ruling, which prohibited the unauthorized use of Khan’s voice and identity.

Salman Khan approached the Delhi High Court to protect his personality and publicity rights. On December 11, the court instructed social media intermediaries to take action within three days regarding his petition.

Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora stated that she would personally issue stay orders against any defendants who misuse Khan’s name, images, or other personal characteristics for commercial purposes.

The court also directed social media intermediaries to treat Khan’s lawsuit as a formal complaint according to the Information Technology (Intermediaries Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.

Salman Khan requested the court to prevent both identified and unidentified (John Doe) defendants from using his name, image, voice, likeness, dialogues, mannerisms, or other elements integral to his public persona.

The issue of personality rights has become very important in recent years because many celebrities have found their photos, videos, names, and voices being misused for advertisements, promotions, or content monetisation without their approval.

In the past, several well-known personalities have also approached the Delhi High Court for similar protection.

These include Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Nagarjuna, Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Karan Johar, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, and Jaggi Vasudev, who have all secured legal orders safeguarding their identity from unauthorised exploitation.
