The production house had gone to the Court after it found that not only were several short video clips being circulated online, but even a pirated full version of the movie was uploaded on the internet.
The lawyers for the film told the Court that this illegal sharing was damaging the film’s business, causing loss of money, breaking their contracts with distributors, and hurting the reputation of the film and the team.
The Hon’ble Justice Jyoti Singh noted that the case had all the necessary points for granting urgent relief and passed the following strict directions:
“Defendant No. 2/Meta Platforms Inc. is directed to take down and disable the URLs hosting the infringing videos on Instagram and Facebook (mentioned at pages 176 to 212) and Defendant No. 4/X Corp. shall take down and disable the URL mentioned at page 213, in accordance with the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021,”
-the Court ordered on July 21.
The production house also told the Court that there are 1776 links on Meta’s platforms showing pirated content, but only 191 videos had been removed so far. The remaining content was still publicly available and hurting the film’s release.
Lawyers representing Meta assured the Court that they would follow all legal directions, and after hearing this, the Court gave its interim order to take down the pirated content immediately.
