New Delhi: In a significant move, the Delhi High Court has recommended the termination of Aman Pratap Singh, a district judge in Dwarka, following an incident that raised serious concerns about judicial conduct. On October 10, the Department of Law, Justice, and Legislative Affairs officially notified his termination, effective immediately.
The official notification stated,
“In pursuance of the provisions of Delhi Higher Judicial Service Rules, 1970 as amended up to date, the Lt. Governor of the National Capital Territory of Delhi, in consultation with the High Court of Delhi, hereby terminates the services of Mr. Aman Pratap Singh, who is presently on probation, from the Delhi Higher Judicial Service with immediate effect.”

Singh had been serving in the Dwarka court since June and was placed under probation shortly after a video surfaced on social media. The video depicted Singh standing up from his chair and yelling at court staff and the counsel of an accused. This behavior drew widespread criticism and led to the High Court taking decisive action. On September 19, the court directed the withdrawal of judicial work from Singh pending further investigations.
Before this incident, Singh had been appointed as an additional district judge in Delhi in May 2023, following his selection through the Delhi Higher Judicial Service Examinations. These examinations are designed to recruit qualified practitioners directly into the judiciary, highlighting the expectations of professionalism and decorum associated with such roles.
The swift termination of Singh’s services emphasizes the judiciary’s commitment to upholding standards of conduct among its members. The incident has reignited discussions about the behavior of judicial officers and the importance of maintaining public trust in the legal system.
The Delhi High Court’s decision serves as a reminder that judicial conduct must reflect the dignity and integrity expected of those in such positions. The legal community will be watching closely to see how this case impacts future appointments and the standards upheld within the Delhi Higher Judicial Service. This situation underscores the critical balance between maintaining judicial independence and ensuring accountability for actions that undermine public confidence in the justice system.
