The Delhi High Court has made permanent its order stopping a YouTube channel from impersonating Anjana Om Kashyap through deepfake-style videos. The Court said such fake channels can cause serious harm and spread misinformation.

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has confirmed its earlier interim order and permanently stopped a YouTube channel from pretending to be well-known Aaj Tak news anchor Anjana Om Kashyap in the case.
The Court passed the final order after the creator of the fake channel did not appear before the court even though the summons was properly delivered.
Justice Tejas Karia observed that the channel was using Anjana Om Kashyap’s photos, edited video clips and fake news-style segments without any permission. The Court highlighted the seriousness of such impersonation, noting:
“The fake YouTube channels of a well known organisation or a personality are likely to result in enormous damage and dissemination of misinformation as the same would lack editorial control.”
Earlier, on June 20, 2025, the Court had directed Google to remove the impersonating YouTube channel and give basic subscriber information of the uploader.

Google later confirmed that it had complied with these directions and provided the necessary details to the Court.
Based on this information, the person linked to the account was served with a summons through email and SMS. However, the defendant did not file any written statement or appear before the Court.
In its final decision, the Delhi High Court held that the YouTube channel was created using Anjana Om Kashyap’s name and image in a way that could easily mislead viewers into thinking that the content was published by her.
The Court said that using her photographs, videos or news-like clips without consent must be permanently prohibited.
Therefore, it passed an order stopping the defendant from making or circulating any similar impersonating content in the future. The Court also permanently restrained the defendant from using Kashyap’s name, image, or likeness in any manner.
The plaintiffs informed the Court that they were not seeking damages in this case. Since Google had already followed the earlier directions, the Court did not pass any additional orders against the company.
