The Delhi High Court has passed an interim order restraining digital news channel ‘Charcha Aaj Ki’ from using a logo and colour scheme similar to Aaj Tak. The Court held that Aaj Tak made out a strong prima facie case of trademark infringement and protected its well-known red-white-black logo identity.

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has recently passed an ex parte interim injunction order in favour of popular news channel Aaj Tak, protecting its registered logo and trade dress from alleged trademark infringement by a digital news platform named Charcha Aaj Ki.
The order was passed by Justice Jyoti Singh, who temporarily restrained the defendant digital channel from using Aaj Tak’s distinctive and trademarked red-white-black colour combination along with similar outline borders.

The Court directed that such use must stop across all platforms, including social media handles, official websites, and any other digital or online medium operated by the defendant.
However, the Court clearly stated that the defendant is permitted to continue using the name of the show “Charcha Aaj Ki”, provided that the visual identity, logo design, and colour scheme do not resemble or create confusion with Aaj Tak’s registered trademark.
The case was filed by Aaj Tak’s parent company, Living Media India Limited, which informed the Court that the trademark “Aaj Tak” was first adopted and used in the year 1995.
The company further submitted that the mark has acquired strong reputation and goodwill over the years and has also been recognised as a well-known trademark by the Trade Marks Registry.
According to Living Media, in the year 2025, it came to their notice that the digital news channel ‘Charcha Aaj Ki’ was offering news content on the JioTV platform.
The plaintiff alleged that the defendant was using a logo and visual presentation that was deceptively similar to Aaj Tak’s well-known logo, especially on its social media pages and official website, which could mislead viewers into believing that the two channels were connected.
After examining the submissions and materials placed on record, the Delhi High Court observed that a strong prima facie case was made out in favour of Aaj Tak.
The Court also noted that continued use of a similar colour scheme and logo design by the defendant could cause confusion among the public and result in dilution of Aaj Tak’s trademark rights.
Considering the balance of convenience and potential harm to the plaintiff, the Court granted the interim injunction restraining the defendant from using the impugned logo and colour combination until further orders.
Advocates Rahul Beruar, Nidhi Jain, Manini Sidhu and Aeshna Raghuwanshi appeared on behalf of Living Media India Limited.
