TELENGANA: The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the transfer of two judges from the Telangana High Court — Justice P. Sree Sudha and Justice K. Surender — as part of its efforts to enhance inclusivity and improve the overall quality of judicial administration across the country’s High Courts.

According to the Collegium’s resolutions adopted following meetings held on April 15 and 19, Justice P. Sree Sudha is proposed to be transferred to the Karnataka High Court, while Justice K. Surender is recommended for transfer to the Madras High Court. The official statement clarifies that these transfers are intended to promote diversity and inclusiveness within the judiciary, while also aiming to bolster the effectiveness and integrity of justice delivery at the High Court level.

Telangana High Court

Justice P. Sree Sudha is an experienced member of the judiciary with a solid background in trial and appellate court practice. She pursued her legal education at A.C. College of Law in Guntur. After enrolling with the Bar Council of Andhra Pradesh, she gained considerable practical experience as an advocate in various regions including Tenali, Srikalahasti, and Kavali.

Her judicial career commenced in August 2002 when she was appointed as a direct recruit District Judge. Over the course of 19 years, she served in multiple judicial capacities at the district level before being elevated to the Telangana High Court in October 2021.

Justice K. Surender brings a diverse academic and professional background to the Bench. Initially earning a degree in Geology, he subsequently studied law and began his legal practice in 1992. During his career as an advocate, he held several key roles, including serving as Assistant Additional Standing Counsel for the Central Government in the High Court of Andhra Pradesh.

He also held the prestigious role of Senior Counsel for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), notably representing the agency in the high-profile Satyam scam prosecution. Justice Surender was appointed as a judge of the Telangana High Court in November 2022.

COLLEGIUM

The Telangana High Court is currently operating with only 30 sitting judges, which falls short of its sanctioned strength of 42. The proposed transfers of Justices Sudha and Surender come amidst ongoing efforts to ensure a balanced and representative judicial framework across the High Courts in India, in line with the Collegium’s vision for a more inclusive and efficient judiciary.
