Today, On 11th June, Justice Rajesh Sekhri granted a new one-year term as an additional judge of the Jammu & Kashmir High Court. The notification follows a recommendation by the Supreme Court Collegium on May 17. Justice Sekhri will continue in his role for another year. The decision ensures continuity in the judiciary of Jammu & Kashmir.
The Central Government extended Justice Rajesh Sekhri‘s tenure as an additional judge of the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court for another year, effective Tuesday.
Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal announced this decision via a tweet.
The Supreme Court Collegium proposed this extension on May 17, recommending a one-year term for Justice Sekhri in his current role.
According to the resolution, the High Court’s Collegium suggested this extension on April 23, citing the unavailability of a permanent judge position.
Following the Memorandum of Procedure, the Supreme Court Collegium sought input from its bench members familiar with the operations of the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court before making its recommendation.
A two-judge committee evaluated the quality of Justice Sekhri’s judicial decisions and found them to be well-reasoned, with thorough analysis of the facts and appropriate citations of relevant case law.
The notification issued on June 11, 2024, stated,
“Under the authority granted by clause (l) of Article 224 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to reappoint Shri Justice Rajesh Sekhri as an Additional Judge of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh for a further period of one year, effective from July 29, 2024.”

After a comprehensive review of the available material to assess the merits and suitability of the proposed reappointment, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended Justice Sekhri for a fresh term, effective from July 29th of this year.
This recommendation has now been cleared by the Central government.
